The ToolMint AI Mock Interview Generator creates a structured interview practice session from a job title, job description, experience level, industry, interview type, and difficulty. It presents one question at a time, evaluates each written answer, and produces a final report based on the answers completed in that session.
This tool is for written practice. It does not listen to speech or assess confidence, personality, emotional intelligence, honesty, voice, body language, facial expressions, employability, or hiring probability. Generated questions and feedback require human review, and no practice score can guarantee a callback, offer, or hiring outcome.
How the mock interview works
Start by entering the target job title and pasting the job description. Choose an experience level, industry, interview type, difficulty, and a session length of five, seven, or ten questions. You can also select focus areas such as communication, leadership, analytics, stakeholder management, or technical knowledge.
Candidate background and resume context are optional. You may type a short background, paste resume text, or upload one text-based PDF, DOCX, or TXT resume up to 3 MB. ToolMint uses that context to choose relevant questions, but it does not treat a job requirement or resume statement as evidence when scoring a later answer.
After the interview plan is ready, answer each question in your own words. ToolMint returns a score breakdown, strengths, missing points, specific improvements, a suggested structure, an improved sample answer, a likely follow-up, and a coaching note. After the final question, the tool summarizes recurring patterns and suggests practice priorities.
Supported interview types
The generator supports general, behavioural, competency-based, technical, leadership, case-study, sales, marketing, real-estate, graduate, and custom interview formats. Question categories can include opening, experience, behavioural, situational, technical, role-specific, leadership, and closing questions.
Interview type shapes the question plan, but real interviews rarely stay inside one category. A leadership interview may include behavioural evidence, a technical interview may test communication, and a graduate interview may ask situational questions. Select focus areas only when they genuinely matter to the role.
How written answers are evaluated
Each submitted answer receives five dimension scores:
- Relevance measures how directly the written answer addresses the question.
- Structure measures whether the response follows a clear sequence.
- Clarity measures whether the written explanation is understandable and focused.
- Evidence measures whether the answer includes specific support rather than unsupported claims.
- Role alignment measures how well the answer connects to the supplied role context.
ToolMint clamps every dimension to a 0-100 range and recomputes the overall answer score on the server. The final dimension scores and overall report score are also recomputed from completed answer evaluations. These are ToolMint practice scores, not scores from a particular employer or applicant-tracking system.
The evaluator receives the current question, role context, and written answer. It does not receive a video, audio recording, camera feed, or biometric signal. It therefore cannot judge delivery qualities that are absent from text.
Using the STAR interview method
STAR stands for Situation, Task, Action, and Result. It is useful when an interviewer asks for a real example, such as a time you solved a problem, handled conflict, led a project, or improved a process.
Keep the Situation brief enough to establish context. State the Task or responsibility you owned. Spend most of the answer on the Action you personally took. Finish with the real Result, lesson, or next step. If a result is missing, use a placeholder such as [Add a measurable result] while drafting rather than inventing a number.
Not every question needs STAR. A direct response may suit an opening or motivation question. A structured explanation may fit technical process questions. A case framework may help organize assumptions, analysis, options, and a recommendation. The generated plan labels a suggested framework for each question.
Role-specific interview practice
A complete job description helps the generator select questions that reflect the role's responsibilities and terminology. The content is treated as untrusted context and cannot override ToolMint's safety rules. Requirements listed by an employer are not assumed to be part of your experience.
For a marketing role, useful focus areas might include analytics, campaign performance, communication, and stakeholder management. For a real-estate role, relevant areas might include sales performance, industry knowledge, and client communication. For a technical role, the plan can emphasize technical knowledge, problem solving, and structured explanation.
If you only need help with one known question, use the AI Interview Answer Generator. It creates several answer drafts from one real experience. The mock interview generator serves a different intent: it runs a sequential multi-question practice session and compares patterns across completed answers.
Practical interview preparation tips
Use one specific example when a question asks for evidence. Make your own decisions and actions clear instead of describing only what the team did. Add dates, numbers, tools, clients, or project details only when they are accurate and appropriate to disclose.
Read the likely follow-up after each evaluation. An interviewer may ask why you chose an approach, what alternatives you considered, what you personally owned, and what changed. Prepare short factual notes rather than memorizing the generated sample answer.
Treat the improved answer as a coaching draft. Replace wording that does not sound natural, remove unsupported implications, and keep any placeholder until you can fill it with truthful evidence. Practice aloud separately because a written tool cannot assess pace, pauses, pronunciation, or delivery.

Privacy and processing
The AI Mock Interview Generator is not browser-only. Submitted job descriptions, candidate context, written answers, and relevant extracted resume text are sent to ToolMint's server and then to OpenAI for the active request with store:false.
Uploaded PDF, DOCX, and TXT files are parsed transiently in memory by ToolMint's shared resume parser. The original file binary is not sent to OpenAI or intentionally retained. Contact details are redacted from combined candidate context before that text is included in the interview-plan request. Scanned or image-only PDFs are rejected because this tool does not perform OCR.
Session state is held in the current browser tab and is not written to local storage. Refreshing, navigating away, restarting, or clearing the tool removes the in-tab session. ToolMint analytics record only privacy-safe categories and actions, such as interview type, difficulty, question count, and whether a step succeeded. Analytics do not include job descriptions, resumes, answers, company names, generated questions, feedback, or reports.
Do not submit passwords, API keys, identity documents, medical records, financial account details, confidential client information, or private employer material.
Session limits and rate limiting
Starting an interview counts against the shared limit of five interview starts per IP per hour. A complete interview requires additional calls for submitted answer evaluations and the final report. To keep five, seven, and ten-question sessions usable, ToolMint issues a signed session token that binds the generated question order, current step, client, and two-hour expiry.
The signed token permits only the next valid question step. It does not contain job descriptions, resumes, answers, or feedback. The current server instance also rejects reuse of a completed step. Skipping a question advances the signed session without calling OpenAI. This session allowance does not silently remove ToolMint's start limit; it allows one legitimately started interview to finish.
Limitations
Generated questions may not match every employer's process or interviewer's priorities. A job description can be incomplete, outdated, or broader than the actual role. The model may produce an unsuitable question, weak coaching, or an implication that still needs manual correction.
ToolMint rejects unsupported numeric tokens introduced in improved sample answers, but it cannot automatically verify every non-numeric career fact. Review employers, responsibilities, qualifications, tools, dates, clients, and outcomes yourself.
The final report uses only evaluated written answers. Skipped questions do not receive scores, and a session with no evaluated answers cannot produce a meaningful performance report. Early completion produces a report from the answers available at that point.
This tool does not provide legal employment advice, research employers, reproduce a specific employer scoring model, or guarantee interview success. Frequently asked questions
What is an AI mock interview?
An AI mock interview is a practice session that generates interview questions from role context and provides automated feedback. ToolMint presents one question at a time and evaluates only the written answer you submit.
How does ToolMint generate interview questions?
ToolMint sends validated role, job-description, experience-level, industry, and focus context to OpenAI using a strict structured schema. It then validates the question count, order, categories, and required guidance before starting the session.
Can I use a job description?
Yes. A job description is required so questions can reflect the role. Its requirements are treated as untrusted context, not proof that you have performed them.
Can I upload my resume?
Yes. You can upload one text-based PDF, DOCX, or TXT resume up to 3 MB, or paste resume text. ToolMint parses uploads transiently, sends only normalized contact-redacted text to OpenAI, and does not intentionally retain the original file.
How are answers scored?
Each written answer receives scores for relevance, structure, clarity, evidence, and role alignment. ToolMint clamps those dimensions to 0-100 and recomputes the overall answer and final report scores on the server.
Does the tool evaluate confidence or body language?
No. It does not evaluate confidence, personality, emotional intelligence, honesty, voice, body language, facial expressions, employability, or hiring probability.
Does ToolMint store my answers?
ToolMint does not intentionally store job descriptions, resumes, answers, or generated feedback. Content is processed by ToolMint and OpenAI for the active request with store:false, while session state remains only in the current browser tab.
Can it generate behavioural questions?
Yes. Choose Behavioural or a related interview type. When STAR applies, the feedback identifies whether Situation, Task, Action, and Result are present in the written answer.
Can I practise marketing or real estate interviews?
Yes. Marketing and Real estate are supported industries and interview types. Add the real role description and choose relevant focus areas for more specific questions.
Will the tool guarantee that I pass an interview?
No. ToolMint provides practice questions and written-answer coaching only. It cannot guarantee interview performance, callbacks, offers, or hiring outcomes.
